You can hear Bernie Magnussen or his son, Rave about the Great Customer Service their Dealership's provide their customers every few hours on the Radio and Television. When we stopped in at a Bernie Magnussen Dealership in Auburn California run by Toney Toohey we expected nothing but the same "Great Customer Service". Their Salesman, Warren Miller saw us looking at a new Avalon that we were interested in buying. He quickly mentioned an Avalon that they had that was a Certified Used Vehicle that got 33 MPG and had only 24,000 miles on it( it actually had 28,700 miles on it and barely gets 25 MPG). Warren explaind how it was well-maintained and was rigorously inspected in over 128 areas and was almost as good as a new vehicle. Warren showed us how nice it looked and gave us the keys and told us to take off. It looked great and drove fine. It was almost $9000 off the sticker price of the comparable New Avalon. Based on the Certification signed by Service Manager Vic Corona verifying their Licensed Technician completed the Rigorous 128 point inspection on the Avalon, combined with Bernie's claims of Great Customer Service, I felt confident buying the car and being able to deal with problems should they arise.------------------------------------------------------------ Little did we know that at "Magnussen's AUBURN Toyota" the Customer Service STOPS when you leave the lot. ----------------------------------------------------------- After finding numerous mechanical problems including a leaky steering column, engine oil leaks, sand in the air filter chamber. The majority of the 128 points of the inspection actually never did pass inspection. I brought the car back for service twice. The second time, the Dealership manager Tony Toohey was so gutless he left me waiting in his Dealership for 4 hours while he was out for an extended lunch his Sevice Manager Vic Corona. One of his Salesman Bob somebody, tried to intimidate me into leaving early by yelling at me and then calling the Police. Of course the Police did nothing as I was doing nothing wrong, they didn't even bother to come by and see me. Tony, ever the professional, never showed up to handle my problems although he knew I was waiting. When I finally talked to him on the phone he ultimately told me he didn't care about my problems and to hire a lawyer to deal with it.------------------------------------------------------------ All we wanted was what they had claimed they were selling us, a vehicle that would stand up to Toyota's high standards. That's the biggest joke. "Toyota Motor Sales" cares less for their Customers than this merry band of thieves in Auburn. They did absolutely nothing for us. They told us they had nothing to do with the Certified Used Vehicle program. This turns out to be a blatant lie.---------------------------------------------------------- We gave them three opportunities to repair the vehicle and return it to us in the condition their Certificate claimed it was in. They refused, after spending 3 days doing nothing to it, in fact it came back more damaged than when we left it. One of Magnussen's incompetent service technicians, the same idiot who supposedly Certified it, incorrectly installed new windshield wiper blades and they permanently scratched the windshield. We were left with a steering fluid and oil leaking, unmaintained Lemon, with a nice shine on it. This particular vehicle would never have passed a Certification by a competent technician. This vehicle should not have been chosen as a candidate for the Certified Used Vehicle program. It had been abused for the two years it was leased and never once saw any maintenance.
